Anthony Hogeback in right place for Art of War 31 title shot
Video interview with Anthony Hogeback above
Art of War Cage Fighting 31: Turnbull vs Cafaro will take place Friday evening, September 15th at the Valley Forge Casino Resort. This main event, and title fight, is much more than I can put into words. Both of these gentlemen have been involved on the regional MMA scene for their whole adult lives. They are friends with all of the same people. Cafaro has commentated on several Turnbull fights. There is a ton of familiarity. There is subplot after subplot in this story that’s about to be told. This is the biggest fight of their careers and the fight fans on the scene in Pennsylvania and southern NJ are salivating for it.
That won’t be the only electric part of the night as AOW President Mike Bickings and matchmaker Jillian Peterson have built a stacked card as AOW makes their first trip to Valley Forge, PA. On the main card, MPR Endurance MMA’s Eric Beitz has fought 3 times in the AOW cage. He has been impressive winning all 3 in dominant fashion. Beitz (27) has earned a chance at the AOW AMMY Bantamweight title and will be facing Anthony “Hounddog” Hogeback. Hogeback (26) is 3-2 and trains out of Stout PGH, who are a Renzo Gracie affiliate.
We reached out to talk to Anthony as fight week was approaching. The Hounddog did have his second fight at AOW. I asked him what the biggest thing was that he has learned 5 fights into his career. He tells MyMMANews…
“I learned what I didn’t think was going to be a really big deal at first, just how mental the sport is. I think it’s 100% mental to be quite honest with you. I fought Michael McCaffrey and he had this energy and I was like this dude is ready to fight right now. It kind of messed with my mentality. It took me off my game. I realized you can’t let that happen if you want to be successful in this sport. You have to be very mentally strong. Everyone deals with the mental struggles of the taxing sport. That’s what I’ve learned the most. Just how mental the sport is. I’m just slowly getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
Please check out our whole interview on the link above. Anthony talks about his move to Stout PGH and what he has to do to win his fight.
MyMMANews will have live results and spectacular photos from William McKee. The event and pre-fight show are available on PPV on the Starfund.app.
