Conor McGregor open to fighting Charles Oliveira, but he’s got some “thinking to do”

Former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor says he is open to fighting Charles Oliveira, but he’s got some “thinking to do” first.

Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274 on Saturday night in a spectacular showing, one that was unfortunately marred by his shocking weight miss on Friday. Because Oliveira missed weight, Oliveira was stripped of his title and so he was not eligible to win the belt against Gaethje. However, the UFC said he would still be the No. 1 contender if he won the fight, which he did. It’s now fully expected that Oliveira will fight for the UFC lightweight title the next time he steps into the Octagon, although we do not know who would be standing across Oliveira in the cage in that case.

While Islam Makhachev seems to be the most likely next contender for the belt, there is always the chance that UFC superstar McGregor could sneak in and steal the title shot instead of him. Following the win over Gaethje, Oliveria suggested that the Irishman could be his next dance partner inside the Octagon. Not long after that, McGregor took to social media to suggest that he is open to the fight against Oliveira. However, McGregor also says he has some “thinking to do” in regards to the fight.

I’m not sure I wish to cut the weight. I am really enjoying being built like a refrigerator. I feel I want to fight at this size just to watch it back lol. But I’d love to fight the Brazilian, 100%! I love Brazil and I’m unbeaten against Brazil. All KO’s. I’ve some thinking to do

McGregor has not fought since he suffered a broken leg against Dustin Poirier last summer. However, he is expected to return to the Octagon later this year. Although his current weight likely has him pegged for a return to the welterweight division, a title shot against Oliveira at 155lbs might be too hard for McGregor to pass up, especially if the UFC also likes this matchup and offers it to him.

Do you want to see Conor McGregor fight Charles Oliveira, and who do you think would win the fight?
