Dana White thought Dominick Reyes beat Jon Jones, open to rematch
If UFC president, Dana White was a judge, he would have wrapped the belt around Dominick Reyes’ waist after the UFC 247 main event ended.
The fight was a very close one and one that came down to how people scored the second and third rounds. Some had Reyes winning 48-47, while others had Jones 48-47. But, in the end, the judges awarded “Bones” a unanimous decision win. Yet, after the fight, White revealed he has Reyes up 3-1 heading into the fifth and though he won 48-47.
“The scoring was all over the map,” White said (via MMA Junkie). “… Going into the last round, I had Dominick Reyes 3-1 going to the last round. My kids are terrorizing me that the fix is in, ‘How could this happen, Dad? Reyes won that fight,’ and the list goes on and on of people who are reaching out to me. So it’s not like there’s this landslide of people saying it was a robbery or whatever. People have it all over the place.
“But the reality is, who gives a sh*t? We’re not judges. None of us are judges, the judges called the fight, and that’s that.”
Although White, and several media members had Reyes winning, the UFC bossman said he is open to the thought of a rematch. Jones and Reyes also shared similar sentiments.
“I definitely would like a rematch,” Reyes said. “I mean, I won. And it was very controversial. It wasn’t like he blew me out of the water and I was cowering in the corner, sitting on my butt, ‘Don’t hurt me.’ No, I was bringing it to him. But I’m going to go home, rest up, go on vacation. Sit down and talk with Dana and figure out my future. No matter what, I showed who I am, and very many people can respect that.”
Whether or not Dominick Reyes will get a rematch against Jon Jones is to be seen. But, in the eyes of the three judges it was Bones who did enough to win the fight.
