First Fight View: Leonard Garcia’s last UFC victory

Leonard Garcia fought with one of the most fan-friendly styles that MMA has ever seen. However, that occasionally resulted in controversial outcomes.

Making his UFC debut in 2007 at lightweight, Garcia would enjoy a three-fight stint that saw him pick up a win over Allen Berube that was sandwiched between losses to Roger Huerta and Cole Miller. During this time, an up and coming promotion known as World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) was starting to make some noise.

Prior to entering the UFC, “The Bad Boy” had already debuted for the new promotion as he fought at their inaugural card in June 2001. Seven years later and coming after his failed UFC run, Garcia would return to the WEC cage but now at featherweight as he let the world know exactly how exciting of a fighter he was.

Eventually, the promotion got absorbed by the UFC thus giving the JacksonWink MMA product his second chance on the grandest stage.

In his return, he would pick up what would end up being his as well as only his second career victory in the Octagon as he battled it out with newcomer off of The Ultimate Fighter season 12, Nam Phan. This would be the first of two Fight of the Night bouts put on by the duo, but most didn’t quite agree with the former’s result.

This is First Fight View with Drake Riggs. The video series where we go back and watch some of MMA’s most controversial decisions … for the very first time! I will be watching the fights in their entirety and providing commentary throughout as I score the rounds as they happen. And although the majority of these bouts will likely be under the old version of the unified rules of MMA, scores under both sets of the new and old will be tallied to maximize perspective. The global ruleset is also thrown in just for a little bit of extra fun.

Check it out in the full video above.
