Karate Kid starring Ralph Macchio, Jackie Chan out on December 13, 2024
Wax on, wax off. The Karate Kid universe continues to grow. After the success of Cobra Kai, Sony greenlit a new Karate Kid movie for 2024. Today, Sony unveiled the logo and gave us a release date.
The Karate Kid 2024: Starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan
Just when we thought Cobra Kai was going to be the end of Ralph Maccio’s Daniel Larusso, we are getting more of him.
In a plot twist of sorts, he will be starring alongside Jackie Chan. Chan famously played Mr. Miyagi in the 2010 reboot for Karate Kid that had nothing to do with karate.
It’s unclear if Jackie Chan is playing a new character, reprising his role, or a recasting of Pat Morita. Though that’s unlikely as Cobra Kai has shown us that Mr. Miyagi has since passed. If it’s the same as 2010’s Karate Kid, that would be a unique connection with the same name. (Martha, anyone?)
It was also announced that Karate Kid 2024 will come out on December 13 of this year. The movie was greenlit by Sony last year and with season six of Cobra Kai to be the last, fans were wondering what would become of our favorite characters in our most badass universe.
While Macchio and Chan are tapped to play the role, it’s not confirmed if any of our favorite karateka are coming over from Cobra Kai. William Zabaka, Courtney Henggeler, and the rest of the gang are yet to be confirmed for the movie. It is also not clear if Jaden Smith, the star of the 2010 Karate Kid, will be back as Dre Parker either.
Karate Kid 2024 will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber.
While the 2010 Karate Kid was not well received, the recent treatment Cobra Kai has received has been nothing short of spectacular. With all the fan service one could ask for, who is to say that Jackie Chan returning couldn’t be anything less than awesome.
