Sobah Homasi storms through Jaleel Willis at Bellator 273

Live mixed martial arts action returns to us tonight from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona for Bellator 273.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight championship clash showcasing former Bellator light-heavyweight champion, and current heavyweight champion Ryan Bader, who faces interim champion Valentin Moldavsky in a title unification bout.

Co-headlining the event is former WEC & UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, who faces Islam Mamedov tonight for the supposed No. 1 contendership at 155 lbs.

UFC veteran Sobah Homasi opened up the main card tonight against Jaleel Willis in a welterweight bout.

Both men are coming off defeats coming into tonight’s bout, and both are eager to get back in the winners circle.

Official Result: Sobah Homasi def. Jaleel Willis via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 1:42 of round one

Homasi opens up the bout using his range, getting his leg kicks going. He then throws a body kick, which is caught by Willis, though Homasi reacts quickly and ends up getting Willis to the ground.

He then proceeds to lock up an arm-triangle choke and secures the tap early in round one.

Homasi has had a very admirable career turnaround since joining Bellator. He left the UFC on a three-fight losing streak with a record of 11-8.

The New Jersey native then won his next four-straight, three of which came in Bellator, securing two brutal knockout victories. The latter of those two wins came over fellow UFC veterans Curtis Millender and Bobby Voelker. He was then defeated by Paul Daley and Andrey Koreshkov, two of the Bellator‘s best for some time now.

Now, Homasi ended his losing streak and rebounded against a 15-3 Jaleel Willis tonight.

Normally he knocks his opponents out in victory, this was just the third submission of his career.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
