Wesley Russum ready for Stellar Fights gold after switching to Glory MMA
The full interview with Wesley Russum above.
This Saturday, April 2, Stellar Fights returns to their home/headquarters of the Delaware State Fairgrounds for an action-packed evening of amateur MMA.
With over a decade in the game, Stellar Fights has successfully helped build and launch the likes of many high-level professional fighters. Such fighters as UFC’s, Andre Petroski, Taylor Lutz, BKFC’s Peter Petties, and many more.
Stellar has remained a lasting name in the regional MMA circuit for a reason. Brad Dalton along with the Stellar Fights team and staff has a running legacy for treating fighters fairly and deservingly. A badge of honor that only a handful of regional promotions can truly claim.
In the main event of Stellar 49, Wesley Russum makes his long-awaited return to the cage after a two-year hiatus. He’ll be taking on current bantamweight champion, James “Bubba” Mullens in a bout that has “Fight of the Night” almost a lock.
Russum started out his combat sports career as a dynamic wrestler with fierce power. In his last outing, Russum took merely 11 seconds to stop his opponent via strikes. Then he vanished.
With little to no rumblings about Russum’s next bout, it was odd to see a fighter step away after such early success. Low and behold, Russum utilized the pandemic to relocate to Glory MMA where he would connect with UFC’s, James Krause along with many others.
“I heard about this gym when I was in college,” Russum says about Glory MMA. “The move here took a few months and I’ve just been training” (since). Continuing to emphasize that he’s been “fixing some things I need to work on and I’m ready to get back after it.”
Finally settled in and taking time to fine-tune his craft, Russum is more than prepared to showcase what he’s been working on during his long layoff with a championship bout on the horizon to welcome him back.
It would be a great start to pretty regular competing again,” Russum says about winning the title. “This is a great way to kick it off!”
