Diego Sanchez sentenced to five years of supervised probation

Former UFC fighter and Ultimate Fighter Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation by an Albuquerque judge on Thursday.

The punishment stems from an incident in July 2025 when the famed professional mixed martial artist fired a gun into the air from a Jeep in Albuquerque, New Mexico traffic.

Sanchez pleaded guilty in February to a felony charge after his arrest near I-40 and University, where prosecutors said he fired the gun while passing a crash.

“People do make mistakes, you know, this is Albuquerque, the wild wild west, I made a bad mistake,” Sanchez said in court according to a report from KOB 4.

Prosecutors asked for two years in prison and the maximum sentence for the crime is six and a half years.

“All I can do is take accountability, own it, you know, and spread positivity to the youth and the next generation to change these ways. Not to be shooting out cows– shooting out windows like cowboys,” Sanchez said.
