Errol Spence: Ex-Welterweight Champion, has cataract surgery

The recovery of Errol Spence Jr., the ex-unified welterweight champion, is underway following a surgical intervention on his right eye aimed at removing a cataract. According to an ESPN report, Spence hopes to rebound after about eight weeks to give his cataract surgery time to heal fully.

On Instagram, Spence revealed that he had finally undergone cataract surgery, admitting that it was long overdue. The obstruction in his eye had been hindering his vision, which could explain why he was hit with numerous jabs and hooks during the match. Despite this, he commended his brother for delivering an outstanding performance. Spence has since deleted that post.

Spence’s untimely injury comes after Spence activated the rematch clause, leaving the impact of this recent injury on the timeline of the return bout uncertain if it materializes. Boxing fans have been flocking to boxing analysts and keeping up with the latest fight odds at premier online casinos, so it would be a shame if this rematch is postponed or canceled outright. The victor of the bout had the privilege to select the weight for the rematch. Spence stated his intention to move up to the 154-pound weight category after the match.

Errol Spence was previously hospitalized in 2019 for a DWI crash. The car crash kept him out of the ring for over a year.
