Lavar Johnson jailed after beating girlfriend, staples needed to close wounds
News is developing regarding another domestic abuse scandal involving a mixed martial artist. Allegedly, former UFC and Bellator heavyweight Lavar Johnson was taken into custody August 25 after a warrant had been issued for multiple charges stemming from an alleged assault on August 11.
38-year old Johnson listed on records as 6-4 and 260 pounds remains in the Fresno County Jail on $175,000 bail – initially set at $290,000 – and has pled not guilty to multiple charges, including corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, and dissuading witness by force.
The allegations state that Johnson slammed his girlfriend against the wall and ground, kneed her in the face and head multiple times and then struck her 11 more times in the face with a closed fist.
According to the girlfriend, Johnson eventually backed off when he saw the blood streaming down her face.
When police arrived, Johnson was gone — however the girlfriend was clearly busted up … with swelling across her forehead and nose and blood everywhere. She later needed staples to close one of the gashes.
Cops tracked down 38-year-old Johnson and arrested him on a slew of felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon (his fists).
He is due in court November 20 for a preliminary hearing on his case. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years and eight months in prison.
