Pyramid Fights fueled by Arkansas' next generation of MMA talent

Pyramid Fights fueled by Arkansas’ next generation of MMA talent

Arkansas: a state that up until recently wasn’t known for it’s MMA talent. However, that’s rapidly changing as more and more talented fighters that call ‘The Natural State’ home have made it to the big stage  (Bryce “Thugnasty” Mitchell, “Downtown” TJ Brown , Thomas “ The Young Lion” Gifford and Justin “Grizzly Bear” Frazier to name a few).

Josh Hudson, Pyramid Fights promoter, is determined to keep the fire burning by giving the next generation of young Arkansas fighters a stage to showcase their talent on so they’re ready for the next level when they get the call.

Pyramid Fights 1 was held in January 2017. When asked what inspired him to pursue the idea, Hudson replied “At the time, Arkansas had not had a show in nearly a year. We realized how much talent the state possessed and also how passionate the local fan base is. We wanted to give the local fans and fighters a show they could be proud of and also challenge them by bringing in top competition from surrounding areas.”

True to his word, Hudson has given many Arkansas veterans a home and opened doors for many others to make their way to bigger stages since beginning in 2017.

Like many, the people of Pyramid Fights currently find themselves at a stand still with the coronavirus pandemic happening. Hudson shared some of his frustration and his feelings about moving forward, stating “We have come to a complete halt. 2020 was planned to be our biggest year yet. Many shows will be rushing to be first when this is all over but we want to make sure that we do things the correct way for our fighters and the fans. We are monitoring the ever-changing landscape and continue to discuss timing for the return of Pyramid Fights.”

Hudson feels the fact that he and his team at Pyramid truly care about the fighters is something that separates them from many promotions. He wants to help every fighter succeed and explained “There is a lot the fighters have to do behind the scenes as well and we want to help them navigate that so it’s not a surprise when they do reach that next level. We are a small team so don’t get to have a lot of personal interaction with the fighters on fight weekend but I think most will agree that we do our best to make sure the guys and girls know that we are doing everything we can to help them achieve their goals,  and we do truly care about seeing that happen!”

The Pyramid Fights promoter also says he feels the promotion does a great job of consistently prioritizing competitive match ups from top to bottom of each card, further preparing the fighters for a step up in competition.

While Hudson wants to get back to fighting as much as anyone, he says he’s in no rush until he can assure the safety of fans and fighters alike, stating “We don’t have any events scheduled and won’t until things are more certain… As a promotion we want to continue to grow and hold true to our values.”
