Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier

Stipe Miocic still waiting on Daniel Cormier: ‘Let’s settle this’

Stipe Miocic is still waiting for his rematch against Daniel Cormier.

Miocic and Cormier fought in July at UFC 226 in which Cormier knocked out Miocic in the very first round. Since the fight, the former heavyweight champion has been clamoring for a rematch against Cormier. However, time may be running out.

“Come March, I will have 12 months, at max, left,” Cormier said back in July on The MMA Hour. “I’m going to be done by March 20, 2019. I won’t be fighting again.”

“I’m done, I’m going to be done at 40,” Cormier added. “I won’t be back. There won’t be jumping around or ‘I’m done until I get the right type of fight.’ It’ll be over. I’m not going to be doing this anymore. I’ve said time and time again that I’ve lived a great life in sports, I’ve loved every moment of it.”

Given that March 20 is vastly approaching, Miocic decided to call out Cormier again.

“(Daniel Cormier) March 20 is coming up quick. Let’s settle this and get this fight on the books before you blow the candles out on that cake,” Miocic tweeted.

Time is running out on Cormier getting another fight if he truly means he won’t fight again after March 20. The only pay-per-views left are UFC 234 and UFC 235, however, both already have their main and co-main events. As well, Cormier has been holding out for a fight against Brock Lesnar, but talk of that fight has gone quiet.

Cormier’s last fight may have very well been in November when he defended his heavyweight belt against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden. There aren’t many cards left to fight on between now and March 20, unless Cormier decides to fight on a UFC Fight Night, which doesn’t seem realistic.

No matter what, Miocic is waiting and continues to want a rematch against Cormier. It’s all up to Cormier if he decides to prolong his retirement a few months to get another fight in. For now, the waiting game continues for both Cormier and Miocic.
