VIDEO: Boxer reveals colostomy bag after fight
After defeating Demetrius Wilson by way of majority decision in February 2018, boxer Michael Valentin surprised fans in attendance as he revealed a colostomy bag hidden in his boxing trunks.
Valentin was only a teenager at the time of the fight and has battled Hirschsprung’s disease since birth.
Hirschsprung disease is a birth defect in which some nerve cells are missing in the large intestine, so a child’s intestine can’t move stool and becomes blocked. About 1 in 5,000 newborns has Hirschsprung disease.
Valentin, nicknamed Bling Bling, told the crowd gathered at the CES Boxing event, “I’m a f***ing fighter” as he revealed the plastic bag attached to his intestine.
“I’m a going to take a break after this fight. I know it’s going to hurt me, but, all my life, I dealt with adversity.
“I always fought with a colostomy bag. And for everybody who thinks I’m lying, look at me right now, I got a colostomy bag.
“I’m a f***ing fighter. I fight for anything. After this fight, I’ll be going on to surgery . I’ll be out for about eight months, nine months to recover, but I’ll be back.
“I’m going to recover. I’ll be strong and I’ll give it to anybody. I’m a f***ing warrior.”
Valentin is now 7-1-1 as a professional.
