Watch: UFC Austin preliminary card delivers back-to-back slam KO finishes courtesy of Drakkar Klose and Cody Brundage

We’ve seen some special things thus far five fights into UFC Austin.

Before ranked lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Arman Tsarukyan could take center stage in the main event of the evening, we saw a pair of back-to-back slam KO finishes for the first time in UFC history.

Drakkar Klose took on Joe Solecki in a lightweight encounter in the fourth fight of the evening, and Cody Brundage faced promotional debutante Zach Reese in a middleweight encounter in the fifth fight of the evening.

Klose was taken down early by Solecki but was able to reverse the position shortly thereafter and get on top. Solecki then throws up an armbar submission and is picked up and slammed on the side of his head 101 seconds into the bout.

Brundage’s performance was equally as stunning and impressive. After landing two solid right hands to begin the bout, he takes Reese down and gets to work from top position. Reese goes for an Americana-like armlock from guard, nearly stopping the fight in its tracks right then and there.

Once Brundage escapes Reese then lands an upkick from bottom before nearly sinking in a triangle choke.

Brundage proceeds to pick Reese up and slam him on his head, just as Klose did, only Brundage landed a couple follow up punches before the referee stopped the action 109 seconds into the opening round.

Two slam KO finishes, both done in attempt to escape a submission, and both happened in under two minutes.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
