Conor McGregor roots for Ritu Phogat in ONE Atomweight Grand Prix

Conor McGregor is paying attention to the latest goings-on within ONE Championship.

The Irish superstar recently showed his support for Ritu Phogat and all of Indian MMA by proxy. This came in a recent message when retweeting a photo of Phogat advancing to the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix finals.

This encouraging tweet came amid several positive messages McGregor was posting in relation to Diwali being celebrated on November 4th.

On a Twitter platform that can sometimes be riddled with trash talk and deleted sentiments, McGregor showed a lot of love for Indian culture. He indicated a desire to go to India to study yoga as well as chess while showing a deep appreciation for his supporters from India.

Ritu Phogat responded to the former two-division UFC world champion relatively shortly thereafter.

Ritu Phogat has rebounded well from her lone loss; a controversial split decision to Bi Nguyen. She has now has accrued a three-fight winning streak.

The Indian Tigress last defeated Grand Prix alternate Jenelyn Olsim via unanimous decision in the Atomweight Grand Prix semi-finals at ONE: Next Gen on October 29th.

Phogat’s next foray into the ONE Circle will be against the finalist who emerged on the other end of the bracket, Stamp Fairtex. Stamp bested another Grand Prix alternate in Julie Mezabarba with a comprehensive performance that garnered her a unanimous decision win in the main event of ONE: Next Gen.

The winner of that Atomweight Grand Prix title will also punch their ticket for a crack at the lineal hardware in the division. Reigning champion Angela Lee will be stepping back into the Circle relatively soon. Her first test upon returning will be the atomweight tournament victor.

ONE Championship currently has Ritu Phogat as the number four ranked atomweight. Stamp Fairtex presently sits at number two in the weight category.
