Fernie Garcia vs. Paul Capaldo set for Contender Series Week 6 in October

Fernie Garcia vs. Paul Capaldo will be vying for a UFC contract in October.

Multiple sources have informed MyMMANews that Garcia and Capaldo will compete on the Contender Series Week 6 on October 5. Contracts have already been signed for the bantamweight fight, the sources revealed to MyMMANews. As of right now, it’s not known if this fight will serve as the main event, as currently, it’s the only fight reported for Week 6 on October 5. This will be the first time both of them compete on the Contender Series.

Fernie Garcia (9-1) is riding a four-fight winning streak and has been competing in LFA. The 29-year-old is coming off a decision win over AKA’s Isaiah Batin-Gonzalez at LFA 103 in March. Prior to that, he earned decision wins over Ryan Hayes, Jay Viola, and Marques Smith. His only loss is by split decision to Cody Freeman in a scrap that could have gone either way. Garcia also competed on the Golden Boy MMA card and has three wins by stoppage with all three by submission.

Garcia trains at Fortis MMA and has been the main training partner for the likes of Steven Peterson, Miles Johns, Austin Lingo, and Elijah Johns, and others. He has been pro since 2015 but after his first fight, took two years off. He also was an amateur from 2011-2015.

Paul Capaldo (6-0) has been competing in CFFC and is coming off a third-round spinning wheel kick KO over Chris Vasil in April. Three of his six wins have come by stoppage with all three by TKO/KO. The 24-year-old has mostly fought at featherweight but two fights ago he did make the drop to bantamweight.

Capaldo trains at Catone MMA where the likes of Frankie Edgar, Cody Garbrandt, Eddie Alvarez, and Katlyn Chookagian among others train there. He turned pro in 2018 after going undefeated in amateur, where he started his amateur career in 2016.
