Alexis Davis and UFC Part Ways

There was an apparent departure of UFC Women’s Bantamweight veteran Alexis Davis this week.

UFC Roaster Watch announced the separation between Davis and the UFC just a few days ago. Given that Davis had just won her last fight less than a month ago, her departure came as a shock to many UFC fans.

Davis, who holds a record of 21-11 and went 10-7 in the UFC holds victories over Amanda Nunes, Liz Carmouche, and Jessica Eye. In her most recent outing, she defeated Julija Stoliarenko via a unanimous decision.

The 135lb former title challenger is really a pioneer for women’s MMA and has won two of her last three, making the separation between the UFC and Davis rather out-of-the-blue.

There is no word as to why Davis and the UFC parted ways, but according to Aaron Bronsteter, Davis is a free agent following fighting out her contract. Meaning that Davis wasn’t cut, but she wasn’t offered another contract either.

As Davis turns 38 in October, it is unclear what she will do with the remainder of her MMA career. Bellator would be a great move for the UFC veteran, so perhaps that is something that we may see in the near future.

Either way, it is a bummer to see such a pioneer for Women’s MMA leave the UFC but Alexis Davis has a chance to test out free agency and I look forward to seeing where she goes from here.
