In the short period of time that Shields remained unemployed he received an opportunity to continue fighting as a welterweight, signing a multi-fight contract with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF).
WSOF President Ray Sefo tweeted “Welcome to the team Jake” just a few hours after the WSOF announced via Twitter “WSOF has signed Jake Shields @jakeshieldsajj one of the top welterweights in the World! We will announce Jake’s debut soon!”
WSOF has a stacked lineup of welterweights including former UFC standouts such as Rousimar Palhares, Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman.
