Paty Juarez “Couldn’t Hold Back the Tears” at BYB 22
Paty Juarez emerged victorious over Monica Medina in their high-stakes rubber match. This historic throwdown took place at BYB 22 and saw Juarez regain the BYB and Police Gazette women’s 135-pound titles.
Paty Juarez appeared on episode 50 of Bare Knuckle Radio to discuss several subjects through the aid of an interpreter. Excerpts from our chat are below.
Paty Juarez
Like I said in the intro, it was a rubber match. So, winning the series overall with Monica Medina but also making history. This was the first time in the Police Gazette’s nearly 150-year history that there was a trilogy fight with a belt being on the line. All factors considered, how big was this win for you?
“She said that she worked really hard for this fight. She said that as you probably saw that, she couldn’t hold back the tears after winning this fight. That she’s really happy because again she put in a huge effort and you know, it bore fruit.”
BYB Extreme
How does it feel to have recaptured the gold after this series? I mean you were the champion previously. But does it feel a great deal different regaining the belts compared to the first time you captured the gold? Is it almost more satisfying soaking in this BYB 22?
“She said that usually losses don’t; she doesn’t let losses bother her that much. But she did admit that this win was greater than winning it originally, that she felt a lot better. A lot more accomplished recapturing the belt than when she originally won it.”
Paty Juarez vs Monica Medina III
I mean, you come from such an acclaimed family of champions. What are the thoughts from the family after the win? What’s the sentiment from the family after the title victory and all?
“Both Lulu and Barbie are ecstatic. They’re; they keep posting pictures with the champ and that they’re very happy and they’re very proud of her.”

Cementing yourself as champion again is incredible stuff. But in some recent news, I was seeing Helen Peralta had signed to BYB Extreme. Your opponent Monica Medina had mentioned in a post-fight interview that maybe she was looking to take that fight for Peralta’s debut in the Mighty Trigon.
Just considering the resume of Peralta, is that something you would be interested in? I mean Medina mentioned it in the context of fighting for a belt at 125. Is that of any interest to you or are you more focused on defending the lightweight hardware going forward?
“She’s saying that she has no interest, and she probably can’t fight at 125. That it’d be really difficult for her and that she just wants to focus on defending the lightweight belt. Not coming down to 125 or anything like that.”
