Andy Williams Dies at 48 After Medical Emergency During Wrestling Match
The professional wrestling world is mourning the sudden death of Andy Williams, best known to fans as “The Butcher,” who died Saturday night at the age of 48 after suffering a medical emergency during a wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
Williams collapsed near the end of an Enjoy Wrestling tag-team match at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. He was teaming with his longtime partner, The Blade, against TME when the medical emergency occurred.
According to Enjoy Wrestling, Williams collapsed toward the end of the match. Medical personnel at the venue immediately responded and administered CPR before an ambulance arrived. The remainder of the event was canceled as Williams was transported to a hospital.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed Williams’ death, according to TMZ. An official cause of death has not yet been released.
From the Music World to Professional Wrestling
Williams had an unusual and highly successful dual career in music and professional wrestling.
Long before becoming known as The Butcher, Williams was a founding member and rhythm guitarist for Buffalo, New York-based metalcore band Every Time I Die. He remained with the influential group from its formation in 1998 until its breakup in 2022. During that time, the band released nine studio albums and became a major influence within the metalcore scene.
Williams began pursuing professional wrestling in the mid-2010s, eventually turning his passion into a second career. He made his All Elite Wrestling debut as The Butcher in 2019 and became a regular tag-team competitor alongside The Blade, whose real name is Jesse Guilmette.
The duo became recognizable figures in AEW, working alongside and against some of the promotion’s biggest stars. Their run helped establish Williams as a legitimate presence in professional wrestling despite his unusual path into the business.
A Sudden and Tragic Loss
Williams’ death is particularly heartbreaking because he had remained active in both wrestling and music. Reports indicate that he had been working on new music in 2026 with his newer project, Atomic Rule, while continuing to wrestle on the independent circuit.
His death has sent shockwaves through both the wrestling and music communities, where Williams had built a reputation as a performer who successfully bridged two very different worlds.
