The road to this exhibition matchup started in RIZIN and is making it’s return to RIZIN. But Floyd Mayweather hasn’t been inactive. He’s stayed relatively active with boxing exhibitions. Today, we are going to review what’s gone on since Mayweather beat Conor McGregor in his final pro boxing matchup.

First, don’t forget to order Floyd Mayweather vs. Mikuru Asakura below on FITE.tv!

Order and watch below:

Floyd Mayweather vs. Teshin Nasukawa: An odd matchup

Floyd Mayweather first started his exhibition our in Japan in 2018 against kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa. The event was on RIZIN 14 and fans saw a slew of RIZIN stars like Kyoto Goriguchi, Ayala Hamasaka, Jiri Prochazka, Gabby Garcia, and more. But Mayweather being “back” was the big selling point.

Going into the fight, Nasukawa vowed to get revenge for Conor McGregor against the boxing legend. The matchup, however, was odd. Mayweather was a career 154 pound fighter. Nasukawa normally fights around the MMA flyweight limit.

The fight saw Nasukawa come out blasting. Floyd, who admittedly didn’t train hard for this fight, took it easy…at first. Nasukawa threw a punch that Mayweather didn’t like and “Money” turned it up and battered the much smaller man. Nasukawa cried and Mayweather laughed to the bank.

The Big Bout: Floyd Mayweather versus…Logan Paul

The biggest bout in the Floyd Mayweather exhibition tour was against the infamous Logan Paul. Logan Paul, a YouTuber by trade, first dabbled into the boxing world against KSI in 2018 and opened up the entire YouTube boxing phenomenon. Paul’s bout ended in a draw and the two decided to go “pro” and fight with no headgear. KSI won that due to a point deduction for Paul.

Logan Paul parlayed that fight to a bout with Floyd Mayweather and the event was scheduled for February 2021. That event, as rumor has it, was not selling well and Mayweather and Paul rescheduled it for that June.

The bout was uneventful as one would thing. Logan Paul came out swinging and not able to hit Mayweather. At one point Mayweather buzzes Logan Paul and he holds up Paul from falling down. It was captured on camera of Logan Paul telling Mayweather to relax and that it was just an exhibition. That caused some controversy but what can we say? It was an exhibition.

The fight had no judges and Mayweather was seen as the winner regardless.

A Former Sparring Partner: Mayweather vs. Don Moore

In his most recent bout, Floyd Mayweather beat up on Don Moore on Yas Island (The UFC’s Fight Island). Mayweather took on the 18-0-1 Moore but Moore hadn’t fought since 2016. The bout was scheduled to take place on May 14th, 2022 but the President of Saudi Arabia passed away and the event was postponed.

When I say Mayweather beat up on Don Moore, I mean it. The fight was more one sided than the Logan Paul fight. Mayweather put on an absolute monster of a show, however. During the fight, he was a ring card guy in between rounds, talked with the commentary team and even beatboxed. In round 8, Mayweather knocked down Don Moore with a body shot. Mayweather hunted the finish but Moore managed to survive to the bell and the end of the fight. With it being an exhibition, it was ruled a draw.

Floyd and the future: Mikuru Asakura, Deji, and Conor McGregor rematch

Now we are caught up. At SuperRIZIN this weekend, Mayweather is taking on Japanese MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura. Asakura is a heavy hitter, sure, but so was McGregor, Pacquiao and Canelo. Even more so.

With the Asakura fight coming up, there are rumor swirling of Mayweather taking on other fights. Deji, brother of KSI, is linked to a bout with Mayweather this November. That’s almost a done deal, if you believe the reports.

Then earlier in the week, Mayweather said that negotiations with Conor McGregor were almost done for a bout in early 2023. Conor McGregor is busy filming the Road House remake and called bull on Mayweather’s claims.

Regardless, it seems Floyd Mayweather is putting on boxing exhibitions for fun and we, the fans, are treated if that’s your sort of thing. It’s nothing new, however, as this has been going on for years. Boxing is weird, just enjoy it.
