Freedom Fighter Promotions 5 recap: “Biggest pro card in NY history”

On Friday, April 29, Freedom Fighter Promotions hosted another sold-out, action-packed event, marking their 5th show. Already billed as the fastest growing Muay Thai promotion in the country, promoter, Rami Ibrahim is allowing his fighters to shine-flying with the best Muay Thai athletes from across the globe.

In the Freedom Fighters Promotions 5 main event of the evening, Ethan “The Wolverine” Geffen defended his super lightweight Freedom World Championship against Brandon “The Purple Scorpion” Maisonet via 2nd round TKO.  The opening round had the packed Grand Roosevelt Ballroom on their feet in anticipation.  Geffen pieced his combinations together beautifully as Maisonet stayed poised to string together some solid shots of his own but Geffen was pulling ahead by the end of the first.  Entering the second round, Geffen was livelier and more looked more dominant.  Keeping his distance, and chopping away from the outside, Geffen was making the margin on the scorecards more abundant as the round continued.  Until finding his mark, dropping Maisonet in his tracks.  The referee began to count, but it became evident the bout was over, as he waved the main event to a halt at 1:51 seconds into the second round.

In the co-main event of the evening, it was fun and theatrical while it lasted, but ultimately, all good things good must come to an end.  For Richard Abraham, his win at Freedom 5 was the final chapter in his fighting career.  Winning the Freedom Super Middleweight World championship as well as the WMC National Muay Thai title by stopping Izjadin Bekteshi in the 2nd round of their co-main event.  The first round was back and forth, seeing both fighters showing a beautiful display of Muay Thai and both landing sound combinations.  However, the tide shifted at the beginning of the second round when Bekteshi crashed to the canvas, favoring one of his legs that was clearly injured.  Unable to continue, the referee has no choice but to call a halt to the contest, declaring Abraham the newly crowned champ via TKO.

Abraham took to the microphone immediately following the contest, during his post-fight interview to make the formal announcement that he’d no longer continue fighting professionally.  Bringing his son into the ring to be a part of the obvious emotional announcement, Abraham praised and promised his son that he would focus on spending more of his time outside of the ring with him and thanking his family for the time they’ve sacrificed for him to live out his dreams as a professional athlete.  In turn, promising he’d return the favor.  A truly beautiful display in the ring after a successful and well-deserved win capping Richard “Maximus” Abraham’s professional Muay Thai fighting career.

An astonishing 12 out of 16 bouts were championship bouts at Freedom Fighter Promotions 5.  Continuing to build their champions, their roster, and their product, Freedom Fighter Promotions’ stock is on the rise and is only growing with each show.

Freedom Fighter Promotions gets right back to work with their 6th event, scheduled to return to the beautiful and historic Grand Roosevelt Ballroom on July 1st.  With matchups currently being made, inside sources are already stirring at the championship bouts that are matched.  Already confirmed is an 8-man tournament taking place in the 135 lb. weight with all-tournament bouts taking place on the evening.
