Dylan Budka: I’ve still only shown like 20% of what I can do

It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for Dylan Budka.

In 2020, the Baltimore native was competing in wrestling at Notre Dame College in Ohio, when the pandemic ended his season and he was sent back home.

He spent the rest of the year training to make his transition to MMA, and finally made his debut in January.

Since then, he’s stayed as busy as any fighter in the world, competing eight times in amateur MMA and seven times in amateur boxing. He’s posted a 6-2 MMA record and was 7-0 in boxing.

And finally, on Saturday he’ll compete for the last time as an amateur when he faces Dylan Rinck for the heavyweight title at Premier MMA Championship in Northern Kentucky.

Despite having more fights in a year than many amateurs do in five years, Budka knows he’s still very green.

“We were just waiting for me to turn into the fighter that I’m supposed to be, because the first few fights, I’m still a rookie at this,” Budka said. “It took a few fights for me to let these hands go, because I’m trying to outwrestle everybody.”

“I’ve still only shown like 20% of what I can do.”
