Julian Marquez gets his hand raised after defeating Maki Pitolo at UFC 258.

Julian Marquez steps in for teammate Zak Cummings, meets Sam Alvey at UFC’s April 10 event

Opportunity calls for Julian Marquez.

With his Glory MMA teammate Zak Cumming out of his middleweight affair with Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night on April 10, Marquez is stepping in on short notice. First reported by MMA Junkie, Marquez will make about a two-month turnaround to face the 20-time UFC veteran.

Marquez is making up for lost time after a 31-month layoff. He most recently returned to the octagon and earned a comeback-submission victory in the third round against Maki Pitolo at UFC 258 this past February.

Marquez made headlines for other reasons than just taking home a “Performance of the Night” bonus. He called out pop star Miley Cyrus to be his valentine in the post-fight interview.

Alvey drops back to middleweight for the first time since October 2017. He rattled off back-to-back win at 205-pounds over Marcin Prachino and Gian Villante in 2018. He has been winless since, suffering four-straight defeated and fighting to a draw against Da Un Jung at UFC 254 last October.
