Tony Ferguson answers questions from the media at a press conference in 2018.

Tony Ferguson doesn’t believe anyone would be interested in him fighting Conor McGregor

Tony Ferguson should be next in line for the lightweight title. Both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier who are fighting for the belt at UFC 242 say he is next in line. But, there is another big fight in the division in Conor McGregor that could peak ‘El Cucuy’s’ interest.

Yet, Ferguson doesn’t think his fans would be interested in that fight and doesn’t want it.

“No way, man, the fans wouldn’t have it,” Ferguson said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “They’d put up too much of a fight.

“He’s been fighting old men lately, he’s trying to fight Mark Wahlberg,” he continued. “Maybe that’s the fight for him. The dude’s got a couple of things, making his money, doing his thing. I don’t know if he wants to fight anymore, but he is not my concern.”

Of course, Conor McGregor was in trouble after a TMZ video was released showing him punching a man in a bar in Ireland. Which Tony Ferguson is talking about.

Given the fact McGregor has not fought since UFC 229 and seems out of the title picture for now, Tony Ferguson is uninterested in that fight. He also likes the Irishman to an ex-girlfriend.

“He is like one of those ex-girlfriends,” he said. “I stopped worrying about that dude. At first he was in line trying to go for the title, and once he became irrelevant I stopped caring about him. Now he’s mentioning my name? Get the f*** out of here dude, come on.”

Tony Ferguson says he hopes he can fight for the title by the end of the year. He mentions the end of year pay-per-view in Las Vegas. But, that would mean Khabib Nurmagomedov or Dustin Poirier escape the fight with little to no injuries and can make that quick of a turnaround.

Regardless, Tony Ferguson is confident his next fight is for the title and not Conor McGregor.
