“Drago” Green Lit by MGM as Rocky and Creed Spinoff
The Rockyverse continues to grow. This time Ivan Drago and his son, Viktor Drago, are set to be the titular characters. MGM execs announced today that the movie, which will be called Drago, has found a writer in Robert Lawton and will be about the father and son after Creed II.
Drago Spin Off: If He Dies, He Dies
Dolph Lundgren, the actor who played Ivan Drago, has been aiming for a spin-off for some time and it seems that it is coming to fruition. Viktor is played by Florian Munteanu and was the main adversary of Creed II. As you will remember, his father killed Apollo Creed and his son, Adonis, got his revenge in the second Creed installment.
The father-son duo in Creed II showed a bit about what happened after Rocky defeated Drago and Creed defeated his son. The two were cast out of Russian society as a failure and it looked bad for them.
Creed III was pushed back from November to March of next year and it’s expected that the Dragos will return in said movie in one form or another. Sylvester Stallone, however, will not be returning as he’s stepped away from the franchise.
The Rocky franchise has spanned almost fifty years and has Rocky 1-5, Rocky Balboa, and Creed 1-3 in the canon already. In 2021, Rocky IV received a director’s cut and added more to the movie. There’s been talks of a prequel TV streaming series but there hasn’t been much on that front but talk.
Drago is in the very early stages of development and will be some time off. Expect it to pick up more production steam after Creed III comes out next year. Until then, it seems like a great time to go back and watch the iconic Rocky IV. Thanks for reading!
